It focusses on 'The Negro Motorist Green Book' that was created as an annual guidebook for African American Road trippers. It was created during a time when open and often legally prescribed discrimination against African-Americans, especially non-whites, was wide spread.

Created by Victor Hugo Green [the actual green book] between 1936-66 as a way of limiting the widespread problems that African-Americans encountered when travelling. It gave a list of places relatively friendly towards this demographic of people and was designed as a helpful aid in a different time.

So if I’m not black enough, and if I’m not white enough, and if I’m not man enough, then tell me, Tony, what am I?!

While watching the Film...consider the following...

  • Is anyone discriminated against? If so, Who?

  • The impact of individual scenes - are there any particularly strong scenes?

  • Is there anything that shocked you?

  • Are there any similarities between this film and today?

  • What sort of language is used?

  • How are different characters represented?

  • Pay attention to the colours used.

This is the template we will use for notes

While you're watching the film, think about any photoshoots you could do to illustrate the different points

What do you actually need to produce?

You will be producing a set of elements that form a campaign, highlighting your chosen 'issue' seen in this film.

It is up to you which elements from the film you decided to focus on!

Create and produce a set of 3 various campaign elements across a range of Mediums:

1 - Photographic Based poster

1 - Illustrative Poster (Designed/produced/illustrated by you)

1 - Animated GIF

ALL OF THESE ELEMENTS MUST WORK TOGETHER AS A SET, AND INDIVIDUALLY, FOR A CAMPAIGN.

Pay close attention to your colours used, the font you choose and the style of what you create.

You should complete AT LEAST 3-5 Photoshoots throughout this project.

These issues must be fully researched within your sketchbook.
Make sure you ALSO identify at least 2 artists for each element you are creating...for example:

Photographic poster - 2 Photographers researched and 1 final poster
Illustrative Poster - 2 Artists researched and 1 final Poster
Animated GIF - 2 GIF Artists Researched and 1 final GIF
